April 10, 2019 – Last fall the Missoula Community Foundation (MissoulaCF) and Women’s Foundation of Montana (WFM) launched a Women’s Giving Circle. Last fall 80 women collectively raised $18,000 and the group then awarded a $10,000 grant to the Missoula Food Bank’s LEVL program. LEVL is a platform for those with lived experience to organize around the issues of hunger. A giving circle consists of a group of individuals who collectively pool their resources to support organizations of mutual interest. This year the group plans to give away TWO $10,000 dollar grants one this summer and another in the fall.
Women’s Giving Circle of Missoula County Membership and Recruitment Event
April 11, 2019 5:00-7:00PM
321 West Broadway, 6th Floor
Missoulians can learn about the Women’s Giving Circle by attending the Membership and Recruitment Party on April 11 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Stockman Bank, At the event, representatives from MissoulaCF and WFM will discuss the multi-tiered donation structure and various options for involvement, and last years grantee will talk about the impact of their funding. You will also be able to sign up as a member at the event. This meeting is for members and people that are interested in learning more about the group.
Becoming a member is easy, we have a tiered membership structure, to make it possible for different economic backgrounds to join. By being a member you become part of the collective group that can shape the grants and decide on who is awarded the funding. This allows the group to address the changing needs of the community. The aim of the Women’s Giving Circle is to engage women of diverse backgrounds and varying wealth levels to build community and grow philanthropy in our community. Giving circles have been described as a way to democratize philanthropy because they provide an avenue for people without substantial means to participate in significant giving.
While the group will primarily consist of women, all are welcome to attend the event. The Women’s Giving Circle of Missoula County is a program of the Missoula Community Foundation in partnership of with Women’s Foundation of Montana.
